NASA To Livestream Artemis II Mission Today As Crew Prepares For Lunar Flyby...

NASA will broadcast the Artemis II mission live today as the four-person crew conducts a critical lunar flyby, marking humanity's first return to the Moon's vicinity since 1972. The livestream, available on NASA's website and social media platforms, begins at 10:00 AM ET as the Orion spacecraft approaches within 6,400 miles of the lunar surface.

The mission is trending nationwide as Americans tune in for this historic step toward NASA's 2026 Moon landing goal. Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen will test life support systems and spacecraft performance during the 10-day journey.

Public interest spiked after NASA confirmed the crew would capture live footage of the Moon's far side, unseen by humans since Apollo 17. Schools across the U.S. are incorporating the livestream into STEM lessons, while watch parties are being held at science museums from Houston to Washington, D.C.

The Orion spacecraft launched successfully from Kennedy Space Center on April 8 after weather delays. Today's lunar approach represents the mission's most technically challenging phase, with NASA engineers monitoring radiation levels and thermal protection systems in real time.

Viewers can expect commentary from mission control and possible crew transmissions during the broadcast. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson called this "a shared moment for all humankind" during a pre-flyby press conference yesterday at Johnson Space Center.

Technical details about the livestream, including 4K camera placements inside Orion, were released Wednesday. The broadcast will alternate between mission control footage, spacecraft telemetry, and Earth-Moon positioning graphics to help viewers track the spacecraft's progress.
