Wegmans Recalls Rice Products Over Potential Contamination...

Wegmans Food Markets issued a voluntary recall for several rice products due to potential contamination with foreign material, the company announced Friday. The recall affects specific batches of Wegmans-branded white and brown rice sold in 1-pound and 2-pound bags across stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

The grocery chain said the recall was initiated after discovering "small metal fragments" in some products during routine quality checks. No injuries or illnesses have been reported, but Wegmans urged customers to discard affected products or return them for a full refund.

Affected items include Wegmans White Rice (1 lb and 2 lb bags with UPC codes 77890 17990 and 77890 17991) and Wegmans Brown Rice (1 lb bags with UPC 77890 17992). Products were sold between March 1 and April 10, 2026, with expiration dates ranging from March 2027 to April 2027.

The recall is trending nationally as consumers express concern on social media about food safety. Wegmans, a popular East Coast grocery chain known for its quality standards, last faced a major recall in 2021 for mislabeled allergen concerns.

Food safety experts recommend checking pantry staples against the recall notice. The FDA has been notified and is monitoring the situation. Customers with questions can contact Wegmans Customer Care at 1-855-934-3663 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET.

This marks the third major grocery recall in the U.S. this month, following similar actions by Trader Joe's and Kroger. Industry analysts note increased scrutiny on food manufacturing processes as supply chain disruptions continue affecting production quality.
