USPS Raises Stamp Prices To 73 Cents Starting July 2026...

The U.S. Postal Service announced today that the cost of a first-class Forever stamp will rise to 73 cents in July 2026, marking the latest in a series of price hikes. The 5-cent increase comes as the agency continues grappling with financial losses and declining mail volume.

This is the fourth stamp price increase since 2021, when stamps cost just 55 cents. The new rate takes effect July 9, 2026, following approval by the Postal Regulatory Commission. Other mail services will also see price adjustments, with postcard stamps increasing to 56 cents and international letters rising to $1.65.

The USPS cited inflation and operational costs as key reasons for the hike. "These price adjustments are necessary to provide the Postal Service with much-needed revenue," said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in a statement. The agency reported a $6.5 billion net loss for fiscal year 2025.

Consumer advocates have criticized the frequent increases. "This disproportionately impacts seniors, small businesses, and others who rely on physical mail," said Consumer Action spokesperson Ruth Susswein. Some lawmakers are calling for postal reform to address the agency's financial challenges.

The announcement has sparked widespread discussion online, with #StampPriceHike trending on social media. Many Americans expressed frustration, while others acknowledged the USPS's difficult position. The price change comes as the Postal Service continues modernizing its fleet and infrastructure.

First-class mail volume has dropped nearly 50% since 2006, while package delivery has grown significantly. Experts suggest the stamp price increases may accelerate the shift to digital communication. The USPS remains legally required to deliver to every U.S. address six days per week.

Customers can purchase Forever stamps at the current 68-cent rate before the July increase takes effect. The Postal Service last raised prices in January 2026, when stamps went from 66 to 68 cents.
