UConn Defeats Michigan In Overtime Thriller At Final Four...

The University of Connecticut men's basketball team edged out Michigan 78-75 in overtime during Saturday night's NCAA Final Four matchup in Phoenix. The Huskies advanced to Monday's national championship game, where they'll face the winner of Purdue vs. North Carolina State.

UConn's Donovan Clingan led all scorers with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Michigan's Dug McDaniel kept the Wolverines in contention with 19 points. The game went to overtime tied at 68 after Michigan erased a 12-point second-half deficit.

This marks UConn's sixth national championship game appearance since 1999. The Huskies are attempting to become the first back-to-back champions since Florida in 2006-07. Michigan's loss ends their surprising tournament run as an 11-seed.

The game trended nationally as fans debated a controversial no-call on UConn's final possession of regulation. Social media erupted when Michigan appeared to foul Huskies guard Tristen Newton, but officials allowed play to continue.

Phoenix's State Farm Stadium hosted 72,423 fans, the largest Final Four crowd since 2019. The game delivered strong ratings for TBS during a tournament that's seen increased viewership over last year.

Monday's championship will air at 9:20 PM ET on TBS. UConn enters as 6.5-point favorites against either opponent, according to most sportsbooks.
