Pete Hegseth Faces Impeachment Calls Over Ethics Violations...

Fox News host and former Trump administration official Pete Hegseth is facing growing calls for impeachment after allegations of ethics violations surfaced this week. The controversy stems from newly uncovered financial disclosures suggesting undisclosed conflicts of interest during his government service.

Legal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a formal complaint with the Office of Government Ethics on Monday. The complaint alleges Hegseth failed to properly disclose payments from conservative organizations while serving on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition from 2018 to 2021.

The story gained traction Wednesday when Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, called for congressional hearings. "When public officials conceal financial ties, it undermines trust in government," Raskin told reporters outside the Capitol.

Hegseth responded Thursday morning on "Fox & Friends," calling the allegations "a politically motivated witch hunt." The conservative commentator claimed all required disclosures were properly filed and accused Democrats of targeting him for his media role.

Ethics experts note that while impeachment remains unlikely for a former official, the case could have consequences. "This could trigger investigations into whether Hegseth violated federal ethics laws," said Georgetown University law professor Jonathan Turley in an MSNBC interview.

The controversy comes as Hegseth's new book "The War on Warriors" tops conservative bestseller lists. Some political analysts suggest the timing may amplify scrutiny, with the 2026 midterm elections approaching.

Fox News has not commented on whether the network will take any action regarding Hegseth's contributor role. The network faced similar scrutiny in 2023 when Tucker Carlson departed amid controversy.

Public reaction appears divided along partisan lines. Conservative social media has rallied behind Hegseth with #StandWithPete trending on Twitter, while liberal groups have organized email campaigns urging congressional action.

The Office of Government Ethics confirmed receipt of CREW's complaint but declined to comment on potential investigations. Legal experts say any formal proceedings could take months to develop.
