NASA Reveals First Look Inside Artemis 2 Crew Capsule...

NASA unveiled the interior of the Artemis 2 Orion capsule on Friday, giving the public its first glimpse of where astronauts will live during their historic moon mission. The reveal comes as the agency prepares for the 2025 crewed lunar flyby, marking the first human voyage to the moon since 1972.

The spacecraft's cabin features upgraded displays, redesigned seats, and improved safety systems compared to previous missions. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson emphasized the capsule's role in "returning humans to deep space" during a press briefing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Artemis 2 astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen will test these systems during their 10-day journey around the moon. The crew participated in design improvements based on lessons from Artemis 1's uncrewed test flight in 2022.

Public interest surged this week after NASA teased the reveal on social media. The capsule's interior design addresses key challenges of long-duration spaceflight, including radiation protection and emergency abort capabilities.

Engineers at Lockheed Martin, the capsule's primary contractor, spent three years refining the 316-cubic-foot living space. Notable changes include simplified control panels and expanded storage for scientific experiments.

The Artemis program remains a top priority for the Biden administration, with $7.5 billion allocated in the 2026 budget. Today's reveal aims to maintain public support as NASA faces congressional scrutiny over program delays and cost overruns.

NASA will conduct final crew tests this summer before shipping the capsule to Florida for launch preparations. The Artemis 2 mission remains on track for September 2025, pending successful completion of remaining safety reviews.
