Masters Par 3 Contest Canceled Due To Severe Weather...

The Masters Par 3 Contest, a beloved tradition at Augusta National, was abruptly canceled Wednesday due to severe thunderstorms rolling through Georgia. The decision marks only the second cancellation in the event's 63-year history, with the last occurring in 2020 during COVID-19 restrictions.

Augusta National officials made the call at 11:30 AM ET after meteorologists warned of dangerous lightning and heavy rainfall. The family-friendly event, where players often include their children as caddies, typically draws thousands of spectators to the picturesque short course.

This year's cancellation is particularly disappointing as Tiger Woods had confirmed his participation, his first Par 3 appearance since 2018. Defending champion Tom Hoge and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler were also among the 72 players scheduled to compete.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Augusta through 5 PM ET, with potential wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Tournament chairman Fred Ridley stated, "The safety of everyone on property is our top priority."

Fans took to social media to express disappointment, though many agreed with the safety decision. The main tournament begins Thursday morning under partly cloudy skies, with improved weather expected for the weekend. All eyes now turn to whether Woods can make his 24th consecutive Masters cut despite the disrupted preparation schedule.
