Georgia Election Results Show Tight Race As Voter Turnout Surges...

Georgia's closely watched primary elections delivered mixed results Tuesday night, with several key races still too close to call as of Wednesday morning. The high-stakes contests, including a competitive U.S. Senate primary and multiple congressional battles, drew record midterm turnout across the state.

Election officials reported over 2.1 million ballots cast, surpassing 2022 primary turnout by nearly 15%. The surge comes amid intense national focus on Georgia's evolving political landscape following its pivotal role in the 2020 presidential election and 2021 Senate runoffs.

In the Republican Senate primary, businessman Jeff Duncan led former state senator David Perdue by just 3 percentage points with 92% of precincts reporting. The winner will face Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock in November's general election.

Three congressional districts saw particularly tight races, including Georgia's 6th District where incumbent Republican Rich McCormick trailed challenger Jake Evans by fewer than 1,000 votes. Recounts appear likely in several contests under Georgia's election laws.

Voting rights groups reported mostly smooth operations statewide, though some metro Atlanta precincts experienced minor delays due to higher-than-expected turnout. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed all votes would be counted by Thursday.

The results carry national implications as both parties view Georgia as critical for control of Congress. Democratic strategists noted strong early voting numbers in suburban counties, while Republicans pointed to rural turnout gains.

Final certified results are expected by Friday afternoon. Georgia law requires automatic recounts in races decided by less than 0.5% of total votes cast.
