Donovan Mitchells Status For Tonights Game Revealed...

Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell will miss tonight's crucial game against the Orlando Magic due to a left knee injury, the team announced Thursday morning. The absence comes as the Cavs fight for playoff positioning with just four games remaining in the regular season.

Mitchell, averaging 26.6 points per game this season, sat out Cleveland's previous two contests with knee soreness. Team doctors determined he needs additional recovery time after evaluating his condition following Wednesday's practice. The five-time All-Star received a platelet-rich plasma injection last week to address the lingering issue.

Fans have been closely tracking Mitchell's status as the Cavaliers (46-32) battle the New York Knicks for the Eastern Conference's No. 4 seed. Cleveland currently holds a half-game lead but faces a tough remaining schedule. Mitchell's absence could significantly impact their chances against Orlando (45-33), who sit just one game back in the standings.

The injury concern comes at a critical juncture for Mitchell, who signed a five-year, $163 million extension with Cleveland last summer. Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters the team is taking a "long-term view" with their franchise player's health. Team medical staff will reevaluate Mitchell before Saturday's matchup against Indiana.

Mitchell's absence means increased roles for guards Darius Garland and Caris LeVert. Garland scored 18 points in Tuesday's win over Memphis while starting in Mitchell's place. The Cavaliers are 5-7 this season when Mitchell doesn't play.

NBA analysts note the timing couldn't be worse for Cleveland, who face potential playoff implications in every remaining game. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Mitchell could return as soon as Saturday if he responds well to treatment. The Cavaliers currently hold the tiebreaker over Orlando after winning two of their three meetings this season.
