Bucaramanga And Boyacá Chico: Why These Colombian Regions Are Trending In The US...

Colombian cities Bucaramanga and Boyacá Chico are unexpectedly trending in the U.S. today after a viral travel video showcased their stunning landscapes and cultural heritage. The footage, posted by influencer Jake Thompson on April 10, has amassed over 2 million views, sparking a surge in Google searches from American travelers.

Bucaramanga, known as "The City of Parks," and Boyacá Chico, a picturesque region in the Andes, are gaining attention for their affordability and unique attractions. Travel experts say the trend reflects growing U.S. interest in off-the-beaten-path destinations post-pandemic.

American tourists are particularly drawn to Boyacá Chico's colonial architecture and Bucaramanga's adventure tourism, including paragliding over the Chicamocha Canyon. Flight searches to Colombia have spiked 18% this week, according to travel analytics firm Hopper.

The trend coincides with Colombia's recent easing of visa requirements for U.S. citizens, making visits easier. Bucaramanga's mayor, Juan Carlos Cárdenas, welcomed the attention, calling it "an opportunity to showcase our region's beauty and hospitality."

Social media discussions highlight safety concerns, but locals note significant security improvements in recent years. The U.S. State Department currently lists both areas as Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution) destinations, similar to much of Europe.

Tour operators report a 30% increase in inquiries about customized Colombia itineraries since the video went viral. "Americans are looking beyond Cartagena and Medellín," said Maria Fernandez of Colombia Travel Experts. "These regions offer authentic experiences at half the cost of traditional hotspots."

With peak travel season approaching, analysts predict sustained interest through summer. Bucaramanga's international airport recently added direct flights from Miami, further fueling accessibility for U.S. travelers.
