Brendan Fraser Confirms Talks For The Mummy Sequel...

Brendan Fraser has revealed he is in early discussions to return for a sequel to The Mummy, sparking excitement among fans of the 1999 adventure classic. The actor confirmed the talks during an interview on The Tonight Show Wednesday night, saying producers have approached him about reviving his iconic role as Rick O’Connell.

The news comes as Fraser’s career resurgence continues following his Oscar-winning performance in The Whale (2022). Social media erupted with reactions, with #Mummy4 trending on X (formerly Twitter) as fans shared hopes for a reunion with co-stars Rachel Weisz and John Hannah. Universal Pictures has not yet confirmed development of the project.

Fraser’s original The Mummy films grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide, and nostalgia for the franchise remains strong. The actor joked about preparing for action scenes at 57, telling host Jimmy Fallon, "I’ll need more Advil this time." Industry analysts suggest a sequel could capitalize on renewed interest in practical-effects-driven adventure films.

No writers or directors are attached yet, but Fraser emphasized any continuation would need to honor the spirit of the original. "It’s about having fun," he said. "No one wants a grimdark mummy." The discussion follows Universal’s failed Dark Universe reboot attempt in 2017.

Fans are already speculating about potential storylines, with many hoping for a passing-of-the-torch narrative involving Fraser’s character and a new generation. The actor’s recent comeback has made him one of Hollywood’s most beloved figures, adding fuel to the sequel’s viral momentum.

If greenlit, the project would mark Fraser’s first major franchise return since 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Theater owners have expressed enthusiasm, noting adventure films’ strong post-pandemic box office performance. Further updates are expected by summer 2026.
